President of SEB: some banks consider leaving latvian market
President of SEB, Ainar Ozols, informed Nozare.lv that some of Latvian banks entertain the possibility of leaving this market. He said: "We are aware of these intentions", however he didn't name specific banks. It was only indicated that he spoke about small Western-European banks.LETA informs that in Ozols' opinion it is normal that particular banks wish to leave the Latvian market: banking market will always exist in Latvia, the question at hand is how many banks will operate there.
President of Latvian association of trading banks doesn't posses any
information about the intent of any banks to leave the market.
There are 30 banks in Latvia, including 10 branches of foreign banks. This year the branch of Sweden bank Scania Finans Aktiebolag has been registered and it's known that Estonian bank AS Eesti Krediidipank is planning to open its branch in Latvia too. Lithuanian Snoras Bank has opened in Latvia its first service center as well.
